DBT Skills Group Leader (In Training)

Kristin earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, where she studied international studies including a summer studying in Spain. She began her career in the nonprofit sector, driven by a desire to help people. That later led her to counseling, and she went on to earn her master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. During her training she completed practicums at a small group private practice and at a Dallas nonprofit serving the homeless community.

Kristin’s clinical experience spans outpatient and higher levels of care. At a group private practice, she co-facilitated an attachment-informed and trauma-informed IOP group built around mindfulness, process work, and skills training. She later served as a PHP therapist at the Meadows Outpatient Center, a dual-diagnosis program treating substance use and mental health conditions together, where she ran a daily therapy group alongside individual therapy using a DBT and trauma-informed curriculum. Along the way she has treated anxiety, depression, and substance use, working primarily with young adults and adults navigating life transitions and questions of identity. At North Texas DBT Associates, Kristin is training to lead DBT Skills Groups, expanding her knowledge and experience in DBT so that she will one day be ready to lead her own Skills Groups, using both her past experience and her new understanding of DBT skills to help North Texas DBT Associates’ patients build their Life Worth Living.

Kristin was drawn to DBT because of how complete it is: a structured treatment that treats the mind and the body as one whole person. Her style is person-centered and collaborative, and she works to meet clients where they are while helping them build and practice the DBT skills that support the life they want.

Kristin’s path to this work began in the client’s chair. Her own therapeutic experience changed the course of her life, and that is the foundation of her hope in therapy for others. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and her big dog (an enthusiastic fetch player), gardening, reading, exploring coffee shops, and doing crafty hobbies.
