About North Texas DBT Associates
North Texas DBT Associates is a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) practice based in Dallas, Texas. We provide DBT to adults, teens, and families in person across the Dallas and Fort Worth metroplex, and by secure telehealth throughout Texas and Florida.
Our practice specializes in comprehensive DBT. DBT is a full treatment program rather than a single technique, and we deliver it in its complete form. DBT was originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, and our clinicians are trained to follow that model.
What Comprehensive DBT Includes
A comprehensive DBT program is made up of several parts that work together: individual therapy, structured skills training, support between sessions, and a consultation team for the therapists. DBT skills training generally covers four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Many people first encounter DBT through a single class or workbook. Those can be useful introductions, but they are not the same as a full program. We provide each component so that clients have access to the complete model.
Our Team
Our team is made up of licensed therapists and a registered dietitian. It includes licensed marriage and family therapists and a licensed professional counselor, along with a registered dietitian nutritionist who supports clients working on their relationship with food. Co-founder Courtney Hicks is a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician, one of only a handful of clinicians in North Texas with this credential and fewer than 450 worldwide. Our clinicians have worked across hospital, community, and private practice settings, and they focus their work on DBT.
In-Person and Telehealth Care
We see clients in person at our Dallas office, which serves Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Arlington, and the surrounding DFW metroplex. For clients elsewhere, or those who prefer to meet from home, we offer secure telehealth across the state of Texas and the state of Florida. Telehealth allows us to provide specialized DBT to people who may not have a DBT practice nearby.
Areas We Support
People come to North Texas DBT Associates for help with intense emotions, relationships and communication, stress, and managing change. We also support clients and families around eating concerns and nutrition, and we work with people seeking trauma-informed support. Our focus is on teaching practical skills that clients can continue to use over time.
